We Are Sierra Leone BASED ORGANISATION

Kenenye Initiative for National Development (KIND) is a locally registered non-Governmental organisation established in Sierra Leone in 2014 with operations across Sierra Leone.

Introduction

One of KIND’s major objectives is to empower rural women through skills development, financial education, small grants and training in agro business methods of farming. We strongly believe that Sierra Leonean rural women are key agents for achieving the transformational, socio-economic and environmental changes required for sustainable development. According to UN research, limited access to credit, health care and education are among the many challenges they face, which are further aggravated by the global food and economic crises and climate change. For KIND, empowering rural Sierra Leonean women is key not only to the well-being of individuals, families and rural communities, but also to overall economic productivity, given women’s large presence in the agricultural workforce in Sierra Leone,. KIND wants to play its part by giving back to this target group to make a difference. At KIND, we also aim to work in partnership with organisations and development partners to support some of Sierra Leone’s school leavers/graduate fulfill their professional and entrepreneurial aspirations.

KIND’s Mentoring Programme for Youth and Women would support young Sierra Leonean's and develop the skills for the workplace or grow their businesses. KIND’s mentoring programmes has two dimensions - for women and youths in the Rural Areas, entrepreneurship for women in Agribusiness and in the Urban centres would focus on entrepreneurial advancement and skills development for job search and career progression. KIND will build on its initial community sensitisation efforts about microfinance services with the help of market leaders, and jointly engage the community in the development and management of the scheme.

According to the World Bank, Africa is set to see an increase of 70% in its working population (ages 15-64) between 2015 and 2035. However, underdeveloped infrastructure, poor or inadequate education, limited access to resources impede the path to prosperity. At KIND, our objectives is to explore ways through collaboration, co-ordination with government, private, non-governmental and civic society organisations to address these varied issues.

We have recently signed an MOU with the Richard George Foundation, a not-for-profit NGO with access to mentors across diverse disciplines. These mentors will help our mentees develop their competence and confidence, create a safe environment for mentors and mentees to exchange ideas and knowledge through collaboration with the aim of enhancing entrepreneurial success.

Enhance employability of youths

KIND is seeking to create a platform for youths from diverse background to develop their skills. We aim to connect organisations and businesses with a talent pool of youths who have gone through the mentorship programme with Richard George foundation.

Improve the management and organisational skills of youths and women through extensive social activities such as seminars

At KIND, we recognize and value the key role of women in the development of a nation. Enhancing the capacity of women is critical in ensuring that they scale up their businesses to support their families and the economy. After working with women for more than ten years, KIND has identified that the majority of their businesses are small-scale.We believe that business management skills would enable them to accelerate their businesses and become successful entrepreneurs.
